We have over 20 bands heading to SXSW this year and below are a few highlights from some of our favorite artists. If you plan on attending we hope you can make it out to these shows as well as check out other eclectic UMPG artists like Dead Letter Circus, Keane, Andrew W.K., Kindness and So & So! Times and venues are listed where available.

Please let us know if you'd like to hear more music from any of the artists below. And if you're at the festival, be sure to reach out to Brian Lambert, Tom Eaton, Keith D'Arcy or Gary Miller to meet up for a gig, a drink or some BBQ.

Honing the restless energy of Sin City, Imagine Dragons' sound is both anthemic and eccentric. By way of Vegas, the quintet's first release on Interscope/KidInAKorner Records will drop this year. Produced by Grammy-winner Alex da Kid, the EP will be the band's most important statement to date. A short, yet impressive touring history includes sharing the stage with indie notables Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Neon Trees, Interpol and Weezer.

"We Are Stars"

New indie-rock darlings Oberhofer have several reasons to be excited about 2012. They've recently signed to Glassnote Records and they begin their European Tour this year as well. Lead singer Brad Oberhofer's knack for expansive instrumentation, honest lyrics and eccentric song structures has received very positive reviews. "Oberhofer sounds like he's expressing the kind of happy, life-affirming jitters you get when waiting in line for a roller coaster, or when you win concert tickets on the radio." With a new album coming out in March, Oberhofer spent the last year touring with the bands Sleigh Bells, Twin Sister and Neon Indian.

Crystal Fighters have managed to fashion a supremely accessible dance album, full of irresistible rhythms, anthemic melodies and chant-worthy choruses. Their newest effort Star Of Love was assembled over a year from a number of musical ideas, beats, chords and lyrics, many of which were developed as part of their experimental and explosive live shows, which were received well by both fans and critics. The fact that it can be enjoyed as a bunch of club bangers as well as a series of explorations of the themes of love and hate, insanity and death, confusion and hope, only enhances its appeal.

BIG K.R.I.T myspace

Underground sensation Big K.R.I.T's highly anticipated debut album Live from the Underground is set to be released this year via Def Jam. With several mixtape "classics" under his belt, this writer/rapper/producer is currently one of the most sought after artists in hip-hop. Instead of making the mistake many a young artist in search of an identity makes, (becoming a Xerox copy of their influences) K.R.I.T developed his own sound: the soul music his parents raised him on, Bobby Womack and Willie Hutch. This explains why his production comes rich with rolling percussion, smooth yet potent baselines and keys that are sugar cane sweet.
